October 2023, Svalbard
In the remote, frozen expanse of Svalbard, winter tightens its grip on the Arctic. Temperatures plunge, daylight vanishes, and silence reigns. It’s here, amid towering ice cliffs and snow-dusted rock, that I witnessed a moment of quiet resilience—a polar bear descending from a steep ledge, leaping forward through the cold air in search of food.
This is not a moment of grace for beauty’s sake—it’s a moment of necessity. The ice is retreating, the prey is scarce, and every movement counts. Yet even in these harshest of conditions, the bear moves with strength, instinct, and determination.
I had traveled far to witness life this raw, this real. As snow blew around me and the wind howled, I felt small—but deeply connected. This image is a reminder of what it takes to survive in a world slowly slipping away.
This is his land and he’s still fighting for it.
