Colorado River Delta

Colorado River Delta
2023, Baja California, Mexico
This photograph was taken during a flight in a small aircraft over the Colorado River Delta. Due to extensive water use from the Colorado River for agriculture and urban development, only a fraction of its flow now reaches the delta at the Gulf of California. Combined with the hot, arid climate of Baja California, this has caused the delta to dry up, leaving behind empty river channels. From above, the white salt crust lining these abandoned waterways forms complex, tree-like patterns.
