2000, Bandhavgarh National Park - Tala District - Madhya Pradesh - India
Before sunrise, the forest stirred.
Two tiger cubs darted the road ahead of us - then two more behind. I knew their mother was close. The bamboo thickets echoed with alarm calls; something was coming.
And then she emerged...
From the darkness she charged - growling, eyes locked - not to attack but to warn. A mother's instinct.. protect at all coasts. She halted just feet from our little car, placed both front paws on the bonnet, and stared us down, checking where her cubs had gone.
I had one chance. Shooting on film, in near darkness, with action moving towards me - three frames, no second take.
This is the one i dreamed of.
Ten seconds later, she melted back into the shadows, behind her cubs, never seen again.
Months later, the film came back. Worth every seconds of the wait.
