A spiny lumpsucker uses the suction disk on their abdomen to cling to a kelp frond in the chilly water of Vancouver Island. Each winter these golf-ball sized cuties migrate from the deep ocean to the shallows to spawn. I was lucky enough to find this character on a night dive not far from my house. After a few minutes of getting used to me, I watched as they hunted krill in front of my mask while taking frequent breaks resting on the kelp.
